We thought the following article from dcnonl.com was interesting for a number reasons. Firstly, many of the shipping container homes that we see constructed across the world are, in our opinion, design triumphs. This project is not one of them. However, this a real attempt from a progressive Canadian developer to actually construct affordable housing / living from shipping containers. There are also some interesting lessons to be learnt in here in terms of project planning, design, and construction methods. What are your thoughts? (more…)

Stefan Beese of RE:BE Design (that is the same people who brought us the Voodoo Music and Art Festival) was awarded the position of Production Designer for the 2011 Quicksilver NY PRO Surf event. Beese took the obvious approach, fusing Modern Urbanism Architecture with the natural environment and beach culture of surfing. (more…)

Infiniski combined with James & Mau are amongst of our favourite shipping container home designers and builders. Casa El Tiemblo aka Casa Raulinski is another one of their creative recycled projects. Located in El Tiemblo in the province of Ávila, Spain, this shipping container home was completed within six months for a budget of 140,000 euros.  (more…)

Architect Patrick Partouche designed this two level 240m2 house in 2010. Constructed by Progeco Dunkirk with the use of 8 recycled shipping containers, and with the use of terracotta, metal, wood, polycarbonate and glass, this building stands in real contrast to its more rural surroundings. Shipping Containers to House Prisoners.

It follows a trial using shipping containers to house inmates at the state’s (South Australia) Cadell Prison.
