We thought the following article from dcnonl.com was interesting for a number reasons. Firstly, many of the shipping container homes that we see constructed across the world are, in our opinion, design triumphs. This project is not one of them. However, this a real attempt from a progressive Canadian developer to actually construct affordable housing / living from shipping containers. There are also some interesting lessons to be learnt in here in terms of project planning, design, and construction methods. What are your thoughts? (more…)

MUVBOX – The Pop Up Shipping Container Restaurant from Montreal Canada has recently won a Gold Award at the Canadian National Design Exchange Awards (Canadian Museum of Design) in the Temporary Interior Design category. Fabricated from a single 8’ x 20’ shipping container, Bark Design Collective’s All Terrain Cabin allows a family of four people plus a pet to live on or off the grid. In the closed position, the cabin maintains its shipping container appearance, easily transportable from one site to another via rail, truck, ship, airplane or helicopter. (more…)

This hip, colorfully painted shipping container city recently sprung up just outside of Mexico city. Created by a small community of businesses, the project features restaurants, gallery space, bars, funky stores and even living spaces constructed completely out of recycled shipping containers.
